cal state fullerton
This year for college day the school grouped students of the same grade level to visit one of three selections for sophomores. The three options were: SDSU, Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly Pomona. I chose Cal State Fullerton because when I researched I saw it had a good film/interactive media program. When I got to the college and while on the tour we say most of the campus and while it wasn't the most modern its social living hubs and specific schools seemed to emphasis what they were made for, an example for this was how the arts part of the campus seemed more open and had multiple displays of modern and abstract art through out the buildings and their social spaces. I feel like this is a very good way of creating an environment where the student will feel welcome and can have his creativity blossom. For the size I would say the campus is average but leaning more toward the big campuses, it doesn't have the size of a school like UCLA but it is larger than most small universities at about 236 acres and having over 35,000 students enrolled. Especially because it is located in a smaller city near Anaheim, which puts it at about an hour to an hour and a half away form home. The school is a Cal State so it is Public but is very selective, giving priority to California students. Another thing I noticed at the school was how close some of the students were to their professors, they seem to have a relationship similar to that of the student and staff of HTH in how they are mentors, not just a teacher who is higher than you.
Some of the Majors I see myself going into in the foreseeable future are Interactive Media and Game Design, Film and TV Production and Writing (For Film and Interactive Media). At Cal State Fullerton, they offer all of these in their Cinematic Art program. While it is not the most incredible program, the fact they have all of them makes the school stay in my mind with other schools like USC, UCLA and Chapman. Some of the requirements for the school are that you have completed either the SAT or the ACT, you can submit only one or both. Usually their acceptance for SAT is between the 25th and the 29th perceptible and the ACT is usually between the composite score of 19-24. The average total fee for in-state students like myself is around $23,505 per year. This price is of course the average and without any financial aid which they do provide to those the deem worthy, which is about 65% of the student body. The average amount of aid in grants for example is $9,544. All I hope is that in the programs I am interested they have a heavy amount of real-world connections and exposure for the students because I feel like that is one of the most important things for me at a university.
While you are at school, Cal-State Fullerton has realized that their students do have lives and offer a lot of activities for the student life. Examples are the arcades, the bowling ally, gym and the many events organized by clubs and other students. As an incoming freshman, most school require you move in for a semester or two, but at Fullerton that is not necessary. But if you do move you can either request a roommate or you will be paired with someone who has similar passions and usually similar classes/majors, and you can bring your car in Freshman year. Another aspect of student life are the sports, at Cal State Fullerton they have: Baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Golf, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Softball, Women's Tennis, Women's Indoor Track & Field, Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field, Women's Volleyball, Spirit Squad. Another aspect that we didn't touch upon during the day was Fraternity life, but they do have it. And if you don't want to be in school, they offer discounts on local activities such as going to Disneyland!
